LOGO AND SLOGAN BALAOG INAKO - INA IS GOD’S GIFT TO US. The nature of devotion is initiated by God. We have received Ina from God. Thus symbolized by the hand at the top giving Ina to us. The two hands at the left side symbolize us, Bikolanos, who have received her as our Ina. The river is the Bikol River symbolizing the place where the humble beginnings of the devotion began.
BALAOG ITAO - SHARING THE GIFT TO OTHERS. A gift received always has a corresponding responsibility. It is not just for us but also for others. Thus it must be nourished, protected, and shared. We who have been given such gift have this responsibility. The lower hand of the one who received Ina symbolizes this and the hand at the bottom depicts those people to whom the gift must be shared – they are also trying to reach out to our Blessed Mother.
The Bamboo cross symbolizes our faith being nourished and renewed through Ina. The centrality of the Tri-centennial celebration – of our devotion to Ina should lead us towards her Son our Lord Jesus Christ. This is symbolized by the big circle in the logo that encloses everything, that is, the Eucharist. Thus, a pueblo amante de Maria and principalmente a la misa in thanksgiving to God.
The festival includes parades, sports competitions, agro-industrial fairs, cultural shows and the felicitation of Miss Bicolandia beauties.
NAGA CITY, Philippines –About three million devotees, pilgrims and tourists converged on the main streets of this city to celebrate 300 years of devotion to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia. The traslacion traditionally marks the start of the Peñafrancia novenary. This year’s theme, “Balaog na Inako, Balaog na Itao (Gift Received, Gift Shared),” centers on the gift of devotion to the Bicol Patroness that dates back 300 years ago from Fr. Miguel de Cobarrubias of Ciudad de Nueva Caceres (old name of Naga City).
While waiting for the Fluvial procession me and my friends taking a sneak peek photos :)
Penafrancia Fluvial Festival in Philippines is attended by millions of Bicolanos, who come here even from abroad.
It is preceded by nine days of prayer in honor of the Virgin.
Tribute and thanks are paid to the Virgin of Peñafrancia
Food and drinks are shared among friends and relatives
Before the nine-days of the prayers, the image of the Virgin is brought from its shrine to the Naga Cathedral and is restored back by the end of the rituals to her actual shrine at the Basilica actually after completing the fluvial procession.
A procession is carried out in the evening in which devotees bring the images of the Virgin of Peñafrancia and the Divino Rostro in pagodas on boats across Bicol River.
When the image reaches Naga Cathedral, Viva la Virgen is shouted by pilgrims.
Had visited and attended mass at the Basilica Church after the procession
